Closures will be in place along Foryd Road from the 4-way traffic lights at Asda in Kinmel Bay to the Foryd (Blue) Bridge in Rhyl

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on the A548 as road resurfacing works get set to start.

Closures will be in place along a stretch of Foryd Road in Kinmel Bay between the traffic lights at Asda and Rhyl's Foryd (Blue) Bridge.

"Carriageway reconstruction" work is due to start on February 7 and last for three weeks.

A Conwy Council spokeswoman said: “The work is scheduled to start on February 7 and is expected to take about three weeks (weather permitting).

"Signs are currently being erected to give prior notice to motorists and letters are being delivered to adjacent properties.

"We have prioritised part of the A548, Foryd Road for full depth road reconstruction work."

Conwy Council will be carrying out road reconstruction work from the 4-way traffic lights (ASDA) to the Foryd (Blue) Bridge (Rhyl).

To speed up the work, workers will have two shifts working from 7am to 2am. Traffic will be controlled by a convoy system.

Foryd Road is a very busy road and the council say it has programmed this work now to avoid additional traffic during the holiday season.

Reconstruction is a structural repair to the foundation levels of the road (up to 250mm deep).

Step 1 - excavate the existing surface and base courses (this is called planing)

Step 2 – adjust or replace the ironwork, manholes and drainage gullies

Step 3 - clean the surface with a mechanical sweeper

Step 4 – lay GeoGrid reinforcement mesh

Step 5 - build up the structural layers in several passes and lay the new surface course

Step 6 - compact and level the new layers with rollers

Step 7 - repaint the road markings

Reconstruction is a noisy, dusty and time consuming process and Conwy Council says it is sorry for the inconvenience this might cause.

The new road surface will provide a smoother, quieter ride and will be a long lasting benefit to the community, they said.

"We thank residents for their patience while we carry out this difficult and complicated work," the council spokeswoman said.
