Police are investigating an arson attack that took place in a recreation ground in Princes Risborough.

A number of fence panels were taken down and set on fire in the park of the King George V Recreation Ground.

The panels were used to fuel the blaze overnight in an item of play equipment between Saturday (September 17) and Sunday (September 18).

Firefighters we called to the scene on Sunday morning to extinguish the still smouldering embers.

The area has since been taped off with the town council revealing it will cost around £10,000 to replace.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "Thames Valley Police has received a report of an arson which happened sometime overnight between 17/9/2022 and 18/09/2022.

"A number of fence panels have been taken down and set on fire in the King George V Recreation ground.

"This investigation will be filed pending any further information coming to light.

"We would ask if anyone does have any information to please call 101 quoting reference 43220423487."

A Prices Risborough Town Council spokesperson said they are "deeply disappointed" following the attack.

They continued: "Sadly, this is not the first act of vandalism or arson to happen in this park.

"Both of these recent incidents have cost both time and money to rectify.

"We urge those who have information about the individual(s) who committed this crime to please come forward and help us to identify the culprit(s).

"If you witnessed the individual(s) or incident, please do report this information.

"If you are able to help us or Thames Valley Police in any way please contact either the Town Council Office on towncouncil@princesrisboroughtowncouncil.gov.uk or contact 101 quoting Crime Reference Number 43220423487.

"Please remember these vandals are costing you, the taxpayer, a lot of money that could be better utilised on more proactive projects."
